Small Injection Molders Report Healthy Growth in 2016

By June 21, 2016October 20th, 2016Uncategorized

Last week we shared a peek behind the data on our Top 100 North American injection molders. Today Plastics News publishes data on an additional 467 molders, ranked by North American-related sales. Let’s take a look at some of the data behind the ranking.

Big companies dominate
It’s hard to believe that these 467 molders account for just 20 percent of our total ranked sales, but that’s the case because the top 100 are so much larger. Today’s batch had sales of $7.2 billion.

Most molders are growing, or at least stable
2015 was a good year to be an injection molder. Some 60 percent reported stable sales and less than one half of 1 percent reported declines. Those firms with increases reported a range of 15-24 percent growth.

Looking at all 567 companies (the Top 100 plus the smaller firms), our injection molders’ ranking has combined sales of $35.2 billion. The average sales per firm was $62 million, up 6.7 percent over last year.

Where are the plants?
Grand Rapids, Mich., and Rochester, N.Y., are the most popular cities in our list of plant locations. Looking at countries, we have 1,004 plants in the United States, 49 in Canada and 95 in Mexico. We are looking to grow these lists, please see the details below if your firm is missing.
